Nour Shabib

I grew up here on unceded, unsurrendered, Anishinàbe Algonquin territory known as Ottawa. I have always been passionate about reproductive and other forms of justice. My studies of Health Sciences at the University of Ottawa furthered my understanding of health as a holistic phenomenon which can not be disconnected from the socio-political and economic determinants of health. This forced me to reconsider what I believed to be quality health care which works to build up marginalized, or otherwise vulnerable, people and their communities. After some time working in various forms of community health I moved to Tkaronto (Toronto) to attend the Midwifery Education Program. During my continued studies I focused on the effects of settler colonialism and decolonization as it pertains to reproductive justice- drawing ties between Indigenous health here on Turtle Island and in my home country of Palestine. I stayed in Toronto and worked as registered midwife until joining Ottawa South Midwives. I am excited to be back in the community where I grew up in and pay forward all the care that was poured into me. My aim is to provide client-centred, culturally competent, safe, and dignified care. I am honoured to be part of this journey with you and your families.
