Meet the team

  • Leslie Segal, Practice Administrator

If you’re in the office frequently, you might catch a glimpse of Leslie, our Practice Administrator. Leslie works to keep our busy clinic functioning well and making sure we have everything we need to care for you and your baby.

  • Franca Winges, Support Staff

Whether you call our office or come in, you’ll be greeted by a member of our amazing administrative team. Franca has been working at Ottawa South Midwives for about a decade and will likely be one of the team members you will see. She works hard to keep our clinic days running smoothly, and help facilitate any connections you need to make within our practice.

  • Angela Last

Angela started at Ottawa South Midwives in 2026 and has been a wonderful addition to our team. Working along side Franca, Angela will likely also greet you for your appointments, and support the needs of the midwives providing care to you. We are happy to have Angela part of great team.

  • Midwifery Student: Amanda

Amanda Thomas is a midwifery student at McMaster University and will be joining Ottawa South Midwives for her senior year of the midwifery education program. Originally from Red Lake, Ontario, Amanda has a diverse background as a registered nurse, with experience in the NICU, public health, and substance use treatment. However, midwifery has always been an interest and passion, and she is thrilled to be pursuing this long-held dream. Outside of her studies, Amanda enjoys walking her dog, knitting, baking and travelling.

  • Midwifery Student Carly

I am a second-year midwifery student at Toronto Metropolitan University. I was drawn to midwifery because it combines my passion for social justice with my interest in pregnancy and birth. I see midwifery as a way to empower individuals and families to make informed choices about their bodies, baby, and care. I entered the midwifery program right after high school because I felt deeply confident that this was the work I was meant to do.

I completed French immersion through grade 12, and I spent 16 years as a competitive dancer, which taught me discipline, a quality I bring to both my studies and care practice.

Outside of school, I enjoy cooking, jogging, and cuddling with my cats. I grew up north of Toronto, so I’m looking forward to exploring Ottawa while I’m here!

In October 2011, Ottawa South Midwives was established with a mission to cater to the needs of expanding families in Ottawa. Our philosophy revolves around the belief that pregnancy and childbirth are natural and healthy processes. While we acknowledge that complications can occur, we collaborate closely with doctors, nurses, lactation consultants, doulas, and other healthcare providers as necessary.

Our practice boasts of midwives proficient in English, French, Russian, Mandarin, Ukrainian, and Kinyarwanda, ensuring that language barriers are not a hindrance to receiving quality care.

Midwives within our practice are granted privileges at The Ottawa Hospital – Civic Campus for hospital births and provide out-of-hospital birth options for low-risk clients, whether at home or at the Ottawa Birth and Wellness Centre.

If you're expecting and considering midwifery care, we encourage you to complete our intake form as early in your pregnancy as possible.
